Overview

Let the moment in an old photo carry on

Upload an old photo and the tool reads who is in it, what they are doing and where, then continues that moment as a short video — someone mid-step keeps walking, a portrait sitter breathes and breaks into an expression, wind moves hair, clothes and leaves. Or describe the movement you want, such as a wave or a laugh. Either way the photo keeps its original look — black and white or faded colour, grain and paper texture — so it feels like the picture itself has come to life.

The scene decides the movement, or you do

With the movement box empty, the tool looks at the people, what they are doing and the setting, and picks the movement that would most naturally come next — walking on, turning to look, laughing, the wind and water around them — with a slow camera move when it suits the scene. Describe what should happen instead, such as “she laughs and waves at the camera”, and the clip follows your words. Faces stay true to the photo either way, and nothing new is added to the scene.

A five-second, silent clip

Each animation is a five-second video without sound, at 480p, 720p, 1080p or 4K — 720p is selected first. The frame follows the shape of your photo, and the original grain, tone and paper texture are kept rather than replaced with modern lighting.

Restore first if the photo is damaged

Cracks and stains can flicker when a picture moves. For a badly damaged print, run it through the AI Photo Restoration tool first, download the repaired version and animate that.

Use cases

Moments to bring back

  • Family portraits

See a grandparent or a great-grandparent blink and smile in a photo you have only ever seen still.

  • Memorials and gifts

Make a short moving portrait for a memorial slideshow, an anniversary or a family gathering.

  • History in motion

Give old photos in a local history project or a family tree a real sense of life.

How it works

How to animate an old photo

  1. Upload the portrait

Add a JPG, PNG or WebP of the photo, ideally with the faces clearly visible.

  2. Choose the quality and the movement

Pick 480p, 720p, 1080p or 4K; the estimate under Generate follows your choice. Describe how the people should move, or leave the box empty and the scene decides.

  3. Generate

The video takes a little while; you can leave the page and come back to it in History.

  4. Watch and download

Play the clip right under the controls and download it to share.

Pricing

How credits work for animated photos

Each animation is one short AI video, charged by what the generation actually uses.

The clip is five seconds and silent; you choose 480p, 720p, 1080p or 4K, and the estimate under Generate follows that choice. Clicking reserves the most it can cost; when the video is ready you pay for what it actually used and the rest is returned.

If the animation can't be made, the page explains why and whether you were charged. Our own failures and photos stopped by the content check cost nothing.

Animating photos is part of the AI tools that open with any credit pack and stay open while your paid credits are valid.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Didn't find your answer? Email us at support@alreadyran.com.

What kind of movement does it add?

By default, the movement that fits the scene: the tool reads who is in the photo, what they are doing and the place around them, and continues that moment naturally — people move, the surroundings move with them, and the camera may drift slowly. Describe a movement in the box — a wave, a laugh, a turn of the head — and the clip follows it instead.

How long is the video?

Five seconds, without sound. You choose 480p, 720p, 1080p or 4K.

Does it work on group photos?

It works best with one or a few people whose faces are clear. In large groups with small faces, the movement is harder to see and to keep natural.

Will it colorize my photo?

No — it keeps the photo's original look, including black and white, faded colour and grain. Use the AI Photo Restoration tool first if you want colour.

Is it appropriate to animate photos of people who have died?

Many families find it moving, but it is a personal choice. Please use photos you have the right to use and share the result with care.

How much does it cost?

The estimate is shown under Generate before you click and follows today's price list; you are charged for what it actually used.
